GIVE YOUR UNWANTED TOOLS|
Our need for tools and equipment varies constantly depending on what is donated to us - unlike a commercial business, we can't just order in supplies when we're running short of sewing machines or chisels! Instead, we have an efficient network of 100 volunteers who co-ordinate tools collections for us around the UK. So if you have an item to donate, please phone us on 01494 765506 or email
admin@workaid.org
and we will put you in touch with your nearest area organiser.
Workaid currently accepts: Sewing machines - manual Singers. No treadles except those where the machine folds under the table top. Knitting machines - any type of metal machine as long as it has an instruction manual and all the accessories. We do not take Bond (plastic) machines Typewriters - manual, desktop and large portable. Small portable if less than 30 years old. Carpentry tools - saws, hand drills with bits, chisels, screwdrivers, planes, hammers, squares, bevels, rulers, tapes, gauges, spirit levels, Stanley knives, pincers, oil stones, vices and cramps Electric hand tools with attachments - drills, sanders, saws and jigsaws Masonry tools - club hammers, trowels, pick axes and shovels Upholstery/leather-working tools - knives, scissors, punches, rasps, hammers, needles Electrical/plumbing tools - wire cutters, soldering irons, hacksaws, stilsons, gas pliers, copper pipe cutters, tap connection wrenches Vehicle maintenance tools - foot pumps, jacks, axle stands, mole grips, wrenches, oil cans, tyre levers. Horticultural tools - spades, shovels and forks ONLY This list is not comprehensive and any other tools used in these trades is welcome. Please do not donate broken or heavily rusted tools as they take too long to restore. Of most value to Workaid are items in good repair which only need sharpening or a light cleaning to remove surface rust and dirt. Small items such as nails, screws, tacks, rivets and pieces of leather are useful as these are packed in the appropriate tool kits. We also need haberdashery items such as thread, wool, hooks & eyes, press studs, scissors, measuring tapes, thimbles and lightweight fabrics which are packed with the sewing and knitting machines.
