In August we were delighted to welcome to our Amersham workshop Sister Mary Fallon, who runs Maamba Youth Projects in Zambia - an inspirational training project for young people which Workaid has been supporting since 1990.
Sister Mary came in three times in order to meet as many volunteers as possible and to thank them personally for their efforts. She also talked to each shift about the impact of Workaid's work in her community and illustrated her talk with several stories of students whose lives have been dramatically changed. These included Kezito, a disabled young man who, when presented with a set of carpentry tools at the graduation ceremony, threw away his crutch and jumped into the air with happiness, landing back on his one leg. Sister Mary said these tools would be the only valuable possessions he had ever owned and they represented his hopes for the future.
It is stories like this which inspire all of us at Workaid to continue doing whatever we can to help people like Kezito make the best of their lives.
