| LETTERS FROM PROJECTS | |

| During 2006, Workaid received 74 letters and emails from projects, thanking us for equipment and saying how much the donation meant to them. This feedback, direct from the people whose lives we have helped to transform, is the main motivation for Workaid's existence - and the reason why so many of the charity's volunteers and supporters in the UK continue to offer us their time, effort and money. Here is just a small selection of recent correspondence: |

"On behalf of Tegemeo Disabled Persons' Self Help Group, I wish to send our warmest and heartfelt gratitude to Workaid UK for the humanitarian assistance and gesture you extend to our group. To date, fifty of our members are able to engage in gainful work, support themselves and sustain their families. Your organisation's intervention and later that of our government, through the Poverty Eradication Programme, have boosted the incomes of our members considering that most of them are persons with physical disabilities that have undergone skills training and rehabilitation. The equipment/materials we received have gone a long way in improving members' wellbeing and we thank you for your concern for the less fortunate particularly the youth."

| "We are very pleased to inform you that we received the equipment shipped to us. We collected the 51 boxes, all in good condition, from your agent at Kisii on 26th July 2005. On behalf of the management committee and children of the KAO Centre, we would like to thank you very much for your kind donation. We are very grateful and wish you God's blessings. The equipment was received by the KAO Children Centre in a ceremony witnessed by the children, management committee members and community leaders. Photos of the event were taken and are enclosed for you to see. The equipment will enable us to operate a youth polytechnic as an income-generating project to finance the running of the KAO Children Centre. Thank you very much."

"The Board of Governors and the entire beneficiary community wish to thank you so much for your assistance with equipment and tools which truly have improved and brought a change in our vocational training system. We have received 24 boxes on 11th August 2005, namely one knitting machines, four manual typewriters, masonry tools and spades, carpentry tools and a box of knitting threads. We thank you so much for your contribution to the well being of the local community. The number of beneficiaries has increased compared to previous years and the practical programme has attracted the young people to get equipped with life long and sustainable skills. These equipments are used too by community groups, men and women, through a programme of apprenticeship. This programme has helped very much to improve the living standard of the people around the area and the social conditions of young people, such as crime reduction, health improvement, income generation and self-sustainability. Some have set up businesses and workshops for themselves. We are happy to inform you that one of our trainees was offered a scholarship by the German embassy at the Mannheim Institute in Germany. He has shared with us the training experiences and modern methods he learned there. We extend our appreciation to you on behalf of the entire school and the community at large." "Greetings from the Mukiria project. we are pleased to inform you that we received our consignment. We, the staff, the trainees, the Board of Governors and community at large are pleased for your kind assistance of the tools they have been lacking for many years. They forward their gratitude for your good office. We collected our consignment on the morning of 29th July 2005. We received a warm welcome from the Kisii office and were grateful to receive our 35 boxes of tools. We have now built a strong room for tools safety and the trainees are very happy and very busy using them. May God bless you and give you strength, physically and financially, so that you can be able to continue assisting more and more of our people in Kenya."

"Since June 2004, after receiving tools from Workaid, a lot of achievements have been realised in our vocational school. At the initial stage the enrolment was only 18 students, this was due to not having enough resources (tools) and manpower (instructors). Also the training space would not allow a big number. When we received the tools, many people especially the youths are interested and the enrolment is now [August 2005] 240 students and more are registering. We have now built two permanent rooms and laid a foundation for more rooms - there is now training space and instructors for each course. The school is progressing on well but our major need is capacity building. It is the only school in the whole of the sub-county and the whole community appreciates our services and extend thanks to Workaid for having donated the tools and request that if it is possible, you give us more support, so that we can empower our youths with skills to enable them to be self-employed. We appreciate your assistance and partnership with us."
