Container 'PHILIP' leaves Workaid
in the UK, destined for Zambia

Workaid container 'PHILIP', destined for Zambia, left our new premises in Chesham on Wednesday, October 21st 2009. This is the second 20' container to leave The Old Boot Factory and is the 5th container to be shipped to East Africa in 2009.

Container 'PHILIP' is carrying a large quantity of refurbished tools and equipment which have been lovingly refurbished by our dedicated and loyal volunteers at our new workshop in Chesham. On board are 352 kits, packed into 716 boxes, whose combined weight is 10.0 tons!! In all, 21 worthwhile vocational training projects and self-help projects will be the beneficiaries thus helping 1050 disadvantaged people to escape the cycle of poverty.

The vessel carrying 'PHILIP', the 'MSC CONFIDENCE' is due to leave Felixstowe docks, on Monday, October 26th and is expected to arrive at the port of Dar es Salaam on the 4th December. From this port the container will travel overland to Workaid's partner, The Community Institute for Youth Development, into the safe hands of our Workaid partners, Brian Mwila and George Songwe. It is likely to be sometime early next year before the container actually arrives in Ndola for there are often long delays en route.
