Container 'JOEL' leaves Workaid
in the UK, destined for Uganda

Workaid container 'JOEL', destined for UGANDA, left Chesham on Tuesday, December 15th 2009. This is the third 20' container to leave our premises at The Old Boot Factory and is the 6th container to be shipped to East Africa in 2009.

Container 'JOEL' is carrying a large quantity of refurbished tools and equipment which have been lovingly refurbished by our dedicated and loyal volunteers at our workshop in Chesham. On board are 342 kits, packed into 680 boxes, whose combined weight is 10.0 tons!! In all, 18 worthwhile vocational training projects and self-help projects will be the beneficiaries thus helping 900 disadvantaged people to escape the cycle of poverty.

Due to the weather, the schedule for the 'Joel' has been changed several times, it was finally due to leave Felixstowe docks on Tuesday, January 12th, on the 'MAERSK KIMI' and is expected to arrive at the port of Dar es Salaam on February 13th, 2010. From this port the container will travel overland to Workaid's partner in Kampala, Interservice, into the safe hands of our Fr Tony Rweza and Fr Pontian Wasswa. It is likely to be months before this container actually arrives in Kampala for there are often long delays en route.
