Container BARNABAS' is carrying a large quantity of second-hand tools and equipment, which have been lovingly refurbished by our dedicated and loyal volunteers at our new workshop in Chesham. On board are 459 kits, packed into 710 boxes, whose combined weight is 9.3 tons!! In all, 30 worthwhile vocational training projects and self-help projects will be the beneficiaries thus helping 1,500 disadvantaged people to escape the cycle of poverty. The vessel carrying 'BARNABAS', the 'Safmarine Nuba' left Felixstowe docks, in Suffolk, on Wednesday, 25th March and is expected to arrive at the port of Mombasa, Kenya on the 25th May. From Mombasa the container will travel overland to Workaid's partner, Interservice, into the safe hands of our Workaid partners, Fr Tony Rweza and Fr Pontian Wasswa. It is likely to be sometime late in the year before the container actually arrives in Kampala for there are currently long delays being experienced at the port of Mambasa. |
